Happy New Year! I can't believe we are in the year 2013. 2012 was pretty great for me but with the wedding, I think 2013 will definitely beat any other year. As with every new year, I have some new resolutions. Almost every year I make mine about losing weight. I'm not doing that this year. It never works and I feel a ton of pressure whenever I fail at a resolution again. I need to focus and change my lifestyle and maintain it for many years. So here is what I'm working on this year:
- Go to Church: My parents are divorced so I grew up going to both Catholic and Methodist churches. Its not an excuse but since I moved out I've been busy and haven't found a new church to go to. I like church and believe that I will feel better mentally by going for that one hour a week. I've done my research and picked out a couple to try, starting this Sunday.
- Train for my half marathon: I signed up for the DC Rock'n'Roll half marathon again this year and I actually want to train for it. I tried to start my plan last week but I, uh, tripped and fell really bad on my first run. My knee was scraped and bruised pretty bad but I started today and finished three miles on the treadmill. Running is not one of my skills but I want to see how good I can do if I just try.
- Make a blog schedule and stick to it: I really like blogging but between work, cooking, working out, planning a wedding and having a social life it has taken a back seat. I think blogging is a good way for me to get healthy and relieve my stress. I've come up with manageable schedule where I'll write 3-4 times a week. For me its too much to post more than once a day or to even post every day. I tend to get overwhelmed when I feel like I'm behind so I think I'll be more consistent with this plan.
- Read for 30 minutes a day: I love to read but for the same reasons mentioned above I have a hard time fitting it in sometimes. Taking such a short time everyday for myself will be relaxing I hope!
So there you have it! My life is really pretty amazing and I want to be more appreciative of all that I have. I chose the resolutions I did because I think they will make me a happier and healthier person, both mentally and physically. I have so many good things coming up and I want to fully enjoy it. These are also totally manageable and as long as I make an effort, I should be able to accomplish them.
Health Update
So I did start this blog to track and write about my efforts to get healthier. I'm happy to report that over the last month I've lost eight pounds, although I may have gained some back during Christmas. Whoops. I'll weigh in this weekend and have some real progress to report. I wanted to lose 10 pounds for the wedding and I'm almost there. Whatever else I lose is just extra excitement.
Tonight's dinner wasn't the healthiest but it also wasn't the worst. Good old soup and grilled cheese on a cold rainy night. Its ok...I ate more veggies and fruit today than I did all of last week.
Happy 2013! Let's hope its one of the best for everyone!
